LCU sees itself as an ambassador for Limerick, promoting its talents locally, nationally and internationally. The choir has toured and performed in France, Bulgaria, Poland, Slovenia, Italy and England. The choir has collaborated with many other choirs over the years and has entered numerous competitions. It’s a choir for both professionals and non-professionals; everyone is welcome providing they can sing in tune. A normal year consists of two major performances at the University Concert Hall in Limerick, participation in a choral festival, a trip abroad and an end of year mass. LCU is a progressive choir, always learning new repertoire, singing in many languages - Irish, French, German, Latin, Italian and Russian, challenging both members and the audience.
We sing a wide range of sacred music in this magnificent medieval building each Sunday. If you have an ear for music and an interest in church music, this is the place for you. Joining is free !!! Pocket money is paid to junior members in fulltime education and choral scholarships are available for third level students. It’s a privilege to sing in such a special building, and it’s also a great way to make new friends.
This it has done very successfully, and its success is due in no small way to its Musical Director, the renowned Colette Davis. Voices of Limerick enjoy singing many of the great choral arrangements and has also performed works that have been arranged specially for the choir itself. In their 2014 ‘CLASSICS FOR CULTURE ‘concert the choir premiered an arrangement by Colman Pearce dedicated to ‘Voices of Limerick’ that lovely ballad ‘Where the Shannon River meets the Sea’, in recognition of Limerick’s year as National City of Culture.
Our Choir Director is Colette Davis. The contact number for our secretary is 087-2969640. She is the contact for new members. Our rehearsals take place on Monday night in Mary Immaculate College from 8pm – 10pm.
