Cór Comáin [Roscommon Choir] was established in September 2017 by Roscommon native, Derek Mahady. The choir chose the name which pays tribute both to Roscommon’s patron saint and to their proud Roscommon origins. The primary objectives of the Choir are to perform choral music, provide quality music education and support local community and charitable organisations as part of the group’s concert series.
To date, the choir have helped to raise over €10,000 for charities including the Irish Motor Neurone Association and Western Alzheimers. In May 2018, Cór Comáin were awarded category winners in the First Time Competitors section of the Mayo International Choral Festival. As part of their programme of events for 2019, the choir will travel to London to perform alongside various London Choirs.
Rehearsals take place in Roscommon Town on Thursday evenings from 8pm to 9.30pm [Sept – June].
Cór Comáin Youth Choir is a County Roscommon Choral Initiative for young people aged 8 – 18 years. Established in September 2017, membership is drawn from both Primary and Secondary Schools.
The youth choir perform a broad repertoire sharing yearly concerts with Cór Comáin Ladies Choir.
Rehearsals take place in Roscommon Town on Thursday evenings from 6pm to 7pm [Sept – June].
An amateur choir, with a BIG heart, Roscommon Solstice Choir is a voluntary, community-based choir, of about
120 members under the direction of Eimear and Andrew Reynolds from Rooskey.
The choir provides an opportunity for people to come together and sing, socialize and to raise money for charitable causes. To date we have raised in excess of €180,000 for charitable causes. Practices are held in Kilbride Community Centre, Four-Mile-House, Co. Roscommon on Sunday evenings during Spring and Autumn and two programs of up to five charity concerts each are performed in June and December each year. The choir also participates in local community events and organises social gatherings and outings for members. Membership opens twice a year, usually in February and September. Members join the choir to help others and is open to anyone, irrespective of age, class, creed, gender or ability, with no auditions and no musical expectation.
