Óró sé do bheatha 'bhaile - Virtual Choir

We hope that you are all keeping well and staying safe. Young people throughout the country (and indeed the majority of the world) are at home and isolating during these exceptional times. Sing Ireland is asking that young people would get involved with a virtual choir performance of Óró sé do bheatha ‘bhaile. This well known piece in a wonderful new musical arrangement is being performed for Cruinniú na nÓg (Creative Ireland’s national day of celebration of young people’s creativity) on the 13th June.

All going well it should feature on RTÉ television on that day.

Young people are asked, if required with the technical assistance of parents, to make a video of them (young person only) singing the piece.

The piece has been arranged for SSA (Soprano 1, Soprano 2 and Alto) choir and voice parts for the piece may be downloaded by clicking the links below. You can also sing the song in unison (the melody version). You will need two devices - one to open the backing track which you will sing along to and one to record your performance.

Make sure to have the backing track on headphones so it doesn’t appear on your voice recording. We ultimately want a video that is just the audio of the young person singing (and not with the backing track in the video). We will add the accompaniment later when mixing all the tracks together.

The deadline for recordings is Monday, 25th May, 2020

In order to take part in the virtual choir performance, we will require a consent that is granted to Sing Ireland from a parent/guardian. This consent will given to allow the young person’s video to feature in the recording and to be compiled together by the editors. Please ask your parent/guardian fill in the consent form attached below and submit along with your video. To fill and sign this form please download the form to your computer and open it, rather than fill it out online. It won't allow you to sign the form unless you download it.

Please note no video/audio can be used without a consent form.

VIDEOS SHOULD BE RECORDED IN LANDSCAPE (lengthways) at 30FPS. iPhones are set to this automatically and androids can be changed easily in the camera app.

Please read the following and attached important information for recording your video submission

1. Open or download the vocal score for your own voice part on the first device (tablet or laptop). Print out the music if you like or make it viewable on the device for you to read as you sing along.

2. Locate the backing track for the voice part the young person will record. This is the track that you will sing along to. In each backing track, a guide to the voice part will appear in the right ear with the other guide music in the left ear.

3. Set up the second device (phone or tablet) to record your performance. We suggest singing in a room with no echo - carpets and curtains help dampen down the sound.

4. Using headphones to listen to the backing track on the first device, press play on the backing track and sing along while recording your video on the second device.

5. When you are happy with your recording, locate the recording on the second device and rename it with your own name similar to the following examples: Choir-Soprano 1-Michael-Murphy or Choir-Alto-Mary- Murphy.
