Solstice Singers seeks new Choir Director

Published 31 July 2023

The group was formed online during the pandemic with a group singing lesson as its foundation. We held our first concert in Dec 2022 with a repertoire that included choral, traditional, foreign language and pop. We are looking for someone who can help us continue to improve our vocal technique & range and develop small group singing. We are open to learning a variety of styles, our focus is on vocal coaching with performance being the end result when we are ready to do so. If you are someone who is enthusiastic, a good communicator and open to teaching small group singing we would love to hear from you. Please email us at solsticesingerschoir@gmail.com

Singing opportunities at St Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick

Published 27 July 2023

Singing opportunities at St Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick Choral scholarships (both undergraduate and postgraduate) We have space for up to three choral scholars for the next academic year (i.e. from September 1 st 2023) to join St Mary’s Cathedral Choir. The choir sings for the morning service each Sunday at 11.15am, and rehearses before the service at 10.15am as well as on Friday evenings (5.30pm to 7.15pm). There are also extra services and events once or twice a month, such as carol services, occasional concerts etc. Undergraduate choral scholars receive a bursary of 800 euro per year, and postgraduate 1,000 euro per year, assuming good attendance throughout the year. Stipendiary singers We also have places for up to three stipendiary singers (soprano, alto and bass). These singers are each paid 25 euro per service and 20 euro per rehearsal, and in many respects fulfill the role of line leader for their section. A good level of sight- reading and musicianship would therefore be required in addition to a pleasant and confident singing voice. Chorister tutor We have an upcoming vacancy, from mid-September 2023, for a chorister tutor at the cathedral. The chorister tutor assists the choirmaster in giving individual lessons to the teenage choristers in the choir (predominantly of secondary school age), and also in providing support with the junior choir (national school age children). Ideally this role would be held by the soprano (or alto) stipendiary singer (see above). The tutor is paid 40 euro per Friday afternoon session, 3.45pm to 5.15pm. For more information or to arrange a meeting with the Choirmaster and Organist, please email Peter Barley at organist@limerick.anglican.org
