Big Rock Singers Seeking Irish Choirs

Published 21 May 2019

The Big Rock Singers is an adult, community choir from Alberta, Canada under the leadership of Music and Artistic Director, Carey Gruber along with Accompanist, Antonina Cox and Choreographer, Jocelyn Leiver. The choir is based out of Okotoks, Alberta – with members also coming from nearby Calgary and surrounding area.

The choir started in 1989 with a handful of members and has grown to a membership of
close to 100 singers of all ages - 18 to 80! It is a non-auditioned group – everyone can join the fun! The Big Rock Singers welcomes singers of all experience levels – and teaches them all they need to know to make their singing and performance dreams come true. The choir is comprised of busy parents, retired grandparents and working professionals from all walks. The common denominator is a love of music – the pure joy of singing, and the relief from the pressures of everyday life that comes with creative expression.

The Big Rock Singers put their unique and entertaining spin on many choral genres – Broadway, Jazz, Pop, Rock & Roll, and also love celebrating the works of Canadian choral composers in their concerts!
Whether classical or contemporary, the Big Rock Singers have sung it all! Every choir performance is a collaborative event including talent of all ages. Costumes, choreography, props, stage and lights are hallmarks of the choir’s exciting shows!

The Big Rock Singers performance tour of Ireland in July, 2019 marks the second international tour for the choir (the group was thrilled to perform in Vienna at the International Advent Sing Festival in 2015.) The choir is so excited for the opportunity to experience the beauty of Ireland, and bring a little bit of Canada to their Irish audiences.
