LISTENBACK www.rte.ie/lyricfm/concerts

‘Sing!’ is a celebration of the power of community, and making music together. Recorded pre-Covid, ‘Sing!’ takes us on a journey to nine choirs all over Ireland. The series explores what motivates us to sing, and why we are drawn to singing together. It explores how raising our voices together can be therapeutic, empowering, inspiring, and sometimes just plain good fun!

‘Sing!’: Episode 1 ‘Gloria- Dublin’s Lesbian& Gay Choir’

Gloria is Dublin's Lesbian & Gay Choir. The special sense of belonging here has been hard fought, in a choir that began in 1995, only 2 years after the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Ireland.

‘Sing!’: Episode 2 ‘Munster Rugby Supporters Club Choir’

This is a rugby choir that has become team in itself; the members support one another through the highs and lows of life, bonded by friendship and a shared devotion-both to choral music, and to Munster Rugby!

‘Sing!’: Episode 3 ‘Serendipity Chorus’

The ‘Serendipity Chorus in Bray has a membership of over 50 women. Every week, they leave behind the stresses of a busy day, to sing and dance together in Barbershop style!

‘Sing!’: Episode 4 ‘Bravehearts Choir’

The Bravehearts Choir, based in Cork City, is open to anyone whose life has been touched by cancer. The members sing for comfort, for escapism, and sometimes just for the beauty of singing itself.

‘Sing!’: Episode 5 ‘Move4Parkinson’s Voices of Hope Choir’

The Move4Parkinson’s Voices of Hope Choir focuses on the joy and release of singing for those with Parkinson’s, and their families and friends. It is a way to connect, finding hope and support, when it seemed there was none.

‘Sing!’: Episode 6 ‘Aspiro Choir’

Aspiro is a choir for children and teenagers in Carlow. At its heart is a belief that everyone can sing, and everyone can sing well, if they are given the opportunity and encouragement to do so.

‘Sing!’: Episode 7 ‘Garda Ladies Choir’

The Garda Ladies Choir is open to members of An Garda Síochána, as well as their family and friends. Taking a break from work, to focus on the joy of singing, can bring confidence, stress relief, and a renewed sense of self.

‘Sing!’: Episode 8 ‘Limerick Gospel Choir’

The laughter and hugs at Limerick Gospel Choir are as much a part of the weekly rehearsals as the energetic singing and dancing. The members have found a sense of home, through singing together!

‘Sing!’: Episode 9 ‘Forget Me Nots Choir’

At the Forget Me Nots dementia friendly choir, new connections are made, songs are sung, and for many, despite the fear and isolation brought by dementia, there is something to look forward to again.

‘Sing!’ is funded by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland with the television license fee, and is a Grey Heron Media production for RTÉ lyric fm. ‘Sing!’ is presented and produced by Mary McDonnell. Choir rehearsal and performance recordings were made by Diarmuid McIntyre and Daniel Clancy. The series was directed by Diarmuid McIntyre.

The Commissioning Editor for RTÉ lyric fm was Gail Henry
