Celebrating it’s eight year, the Mayo International Choral Festival is firmly established as one of the premier International Choir Festivals in Ireland.
The festival takes place all over the Mayo region, from Wednesday 22nd to Sunday 26th May 2019, and allows choirs to experience both urban and rural Ireland, in a county with a strong choral tradition. Choirs are encouraged to experience and embrace all that this diversely scenic area has to offer - from the rugged cliffs and smooth sand beaches of the Wild Atlantic Way, to the beautiful inland lakes, rivers and mountains, and planes that are dotted with ancient abbeys and churches and venues that range from the modern to the quaint and quirky, all with great acoustics.
The festival offers opportunities for both competing and non-competing choirs to participate in concerts that afford visiting choirs the experience of performing with local choirs and musicians. The adjudication panel each year consists of a combination of renowned International and Irish adjudicators, and the emphasis is always on constructive evaluation.
Known as one of Ireland's friendliest festivals, other events, aimed at introducing the joy of choirs to a wider public audience, include the Songway Choral Trail where choirs participate in mini-performances in public buildings and spaces, such as supermarket foyers, cafés, care centres, restaurants and of course in our many interesting pubs!
