An initiative of the Dublin City Council Arts Office, Dublin International Choral Festival will take place 22nd - 24th March 2019.
The Festival will be non-competitive and an opportunity for visiting choirs to meet and share their passion for choral singing with Irish choral singers. The Festival will include shared evening concerts in St Ann’s Church, Dawson Street, Dublin; and a Gala Concert in St Patrick’s Cathedral with an orchestra, conducted by David Brophy on the last day of the festival.
What will the repertoire be?
The music for the performances will come from the choir’s own repertoire.
The first and second concerts will take place on Friday 22nd & Saturday 23rd March, St Ann’s Church, and the final concert Sunday 24th March, St Patrick’s Cathedral (each choir will participate in one of these concerts).
In addition to presenting their existing repertoire, those choirs performing on Sunday 24th March (only) will be invited to perform three choruses from Handel’s Messiah: And the glory of the Lord, Hallelujah & Amen to be sung by the choirs with orchestra, conducted by David Brophy. In addition, theses choirs will also be invited to perform Danny Boy – also under the direction of David Brophy.
Who will take part?
The festival is calling for expressions of interest from all Irish choirs.
