Bursaries for Irish Youth Choir 2022

Sing Ireland are delighted to announce a number of Bursaries that offer a reduction in fees of 50% for the 2022 Irish Youth Choir Summer Course.

The Summer Course takes place from 11-20 August at the University of Limerick and includes:

  • Individual singing lessons
  • Skills-based workshops
  • Group singing activities
  • The opportunity to perform in concerts in Cork, Limerick, and Dublin

Sing Ireland is encouraging young singers between the age of 18 and 28 years old to sign up for this year’s Irish Youth Choir Summer Course. We want our choirs to represent the diversity of Ireland’s young people and we celebrate every individual from any background. We passionately believe that choral singing is for everyone and strongly encourage all talented young singers to audition to become part of our Irish Youth Choir. Sing Ireland particularly encourage and support young people who are currently underrepresented in choral music, including young people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, disabled people and those from lower-income families.

The IYC provides enthusiastic young singers with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of group singing over the course of 10 days. The course provides young musicians with an exceptional musical and social experience that brings a group of young singers from around Ireland together to become Ireland’s National Youth Choir, with performances in Cork. Limerick, and Dublin at the end of the course. Apply online for IYC 2022 Application Form and our 2022 IYC Bursaries* by completing the form and uploading a recording of you singing any song. Sing Ireland will follow up with an online audition slot.

The deadline for applications to Irish Youth Choir 2022 is the 13 May 2022

*Bursaries will be selected by a committee that includes members external to Sing Ireland Personnel.

Speaking of the Bursaries, Dermot O’Callaghan, CEO of Sing Ireland, says:

We’re delighted to see a return to in person group singing across Ireland. The youth of Ireland have missed out on so many opportunities and we in Sing Ireland are excited to offer bursaries in 2022 to encourage a diverse range of applicants for the Irish Youth Choirs from across Ireland. The Irish Youth Choir programme is an amazing opportunity for young singers to be part of the National Youth Choir and to become immersed in choral singing and performance for 10 days in the University of Limerick this August.

‘Anybody who sings in a choir will tell you that it can be extremely rewarding, both in the sense of wellbeing and joy evoked by singing and in the pride of participation to the best of your ability. Group singing is like a team sport - your contribution is as important as that of every other singer in the ensemble. The Irish Youth Choirs offer an opportunity for 18-28 year olds to engage and connect with their musical peers and to gain new experiences and friends that will shape their musical futures.’
